coastline of India is 7 thousand 516 km long with 2-3 dangerous storms every year . Every area near it faces about 10 percent of the world's storms. Because of this it comes in the most cyclone affected areas. There are about 5-6 hurricanes in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea every year and 2-3 of them are very dangerous.

IMD monitoring and alert system

The government has given the IMD radar to forecast hurricanes. The radar is on the east coast and in Kolkata, Paradip, Visakhapatnam, Machilipatnam, Chennai and Karaikal. It has been planted in Cochin, Goa, Mumbai and Bhuj in the west coast. Hurricanes are monitored by these radars.
Satellites also help. Satellite picture receiving technology sends images of cyclones to Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata and Guwahati.
These images are cleared through the advance system in Delhi. Radio-meter ground receiving equipment makes the resolution of images very high. This device has been in Delhi since 1982.
Apart from this, hurricane tracking and forecasting has improved since the launch of Satellite Inset-LB's season-linked program.
The Cyclone Warning Center (ACWC) in Kolkata and Chennai, and the Cyclone Warning Center (CWC) in Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam are responsible for cyclone monitoring. The ACWC in Mumbai and the CWC in Ahmedabad monitor the Arabian Sea.
Hurricanes are forecasted by this entire system of radars, satellites and images and then alerts are sent to the affected areas accordingly.
