Board given time till June 28 to prepare for T20 World Cup, failure to shift to UAE tournament

ICC issues ultimatum to BCCI:  Board given time till June 28 to prepare for T20 World Cup, failure to shift to UAE tournament

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jai Shah traveled to Dubai to attend the ICC meeting.

The meeting between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ended on Tuesday. The ICC meeting has given BCCI till June 28 to review the preparations for the T20 World Cup. Until then, if Corona's condition in India does not improve, the tournament will be shifted to the UAE. However BCCI will have the right to host in the meantime. Only the ground will be in the UAE.

The T20 World Cup could start on October 18. The remaining 31 matches of the IPL 2021 season will also be played before this. The match could take place from September 18-19 to October 10. However, no official announcement has been made yet. On Wednesday, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jai Shah may hold a meeting with the Emirates Cricket Board on the issue.

The decision taken on these issues in the meeting ...
1. The T20 World Cup will come.

The
Indian board , already in the board's Plan-B in the UAE, told the state cricket association on May 29 that it would ask the ICC for one more month to take over the World Cup. However, now that all the officials have arrived in the UAE, it seems that there is a consensus to host the World Cup in the UAE.
The Indian board had already included the UAE in its Plan B for the World Cup. Dheeraj Malhotra, who has been made tournament director for the World Cup, told the BBC in an interview that the UAE has a plan-B if planning is not possible in India.

Big issue of revenue sharing
If the World Cup is played in UAE, the issue of revenue sharing between BCCI and UAE could be big. The BCCI has already said that even if the plan has to be carried out, they will not lose the right to be the organizer. If the tournament is played in the UAE, the Indian board will have to share the revenue with the Emirates Cricket Board.

After the IPL, the World Cup will also be held in the UAE. The
UAE has 3 international cricket stadiums in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. The World Cup can also be held in the UAE with all the not-out matches and finals of the IPL taking place on the same ground. In these circumstances 2 stadiums other than one stadium can hold the ICC about 15 days in advance i.e. till 2-3 October.

A total of 76 matches could be played, including the rest of the IPL and the World Cup. Holding 76 matches in three stadiums in such a short time can make the pitch much slower. Therefore, the board may have to release two stadiums after some IPL matches. It could also start preparations for the ICC T-20 World Cup. While 9 or 10 is the IPL final, the third ground may be handed over to the ICC about a week in advance.

2. Future Tour Program (FTP): The ICC has approved the inclusion of 14 teams in the ODI World Cup from 2023 to 2031, while 20 teams will play in the T20 World Cup. So far only 10 teams will play in the ODI World Cup. Corona caused a lot of damage in the current FTP. In these circumstances, the new ICC rules will benefit many small cricketing nations.

3. One ICC Event Every Year: It has also been agreed to host 8 ICC events in the next FTP. The ICC decided in 2019. But the Big 3 nations, including the BCCI, did not show interest. This means that the Champions Trophy can be played again in 50 overs. The tournament was canceled in 2018 and added to the T-20 World Cup.
