A meeting of the core committee chaired by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Tuesday decided to rehabilitate the coastal seafarers and fishermen from the extensive damage caused by the recent Tau-Te hurricane in the state. Chief Minister said that in Gujarat, which has the longest coastline of 1600 km, many seafaring families in the coastal areas from Porbandar to Umargam are cultivating fish from the small and big fishing ports. The recent devastating Tau-te hurricane has damaged the fishing boats, fiber boats and trawlers of such seafarers as well as the unfinished houses of fishing families, boat anchorage at the port-jetty and other infrastructural facilities.

The
Chief Minister said that before announcing the relief package for fisheries, senior officials including Minister of State for Fisheries and Ports Jawaharbhai Chavda and Secretary Nalin Upadhyay visited the ports of Amreli, Bhavnagar and Gir-Somnath districts. A comprehensive survey of the damage to boats, large boats, trailers as well as jetty ports to the fishing families was carried out taking into account the representations of local fishermen.

80 crore allocated for repairs in small and big ports.

The Rs 80 crore
relief package announced by Chief Minister Vijay Rupani for repairing damage to ports includes Rs 25 crore for damage to seafarers-fishermen's boats, trawlers, fishing nets etc. as well as Rs 80 crore for total damage to infrastructure of fishing ports. . As for the other features of this package, the sailors of the damaged boats are entitled to a higher cost of Rs. 2000 assistance will be paid directly to their account through DBT.




Highlights of the relief package

50 per cent of the loss due to assistance against damage to boat nets / equipment or Rs. Assistance up to 35,000, whichever is less.
In case of partially damaged small boat 50% or Rs. 35,000 assistance, whichever is less.
If the small boat is completely damaged then 50% of the price of such boat or Rs. 75,000, whichever is less.
50% in case of partially damaged trawler, dolnator, gill netter boat or Rs. 2 lakh, whichever is less, higher assistance will be given.
In addition, if a fisherman takes a loan of up to Rs 5 lakh, the state government will provide interest up to 10 per cent interest on it, on a declining balance for 2 years.
In case of fully damaged trawlers, dolnets, gill netter boats 50 per cent of the cost or Rs 5 lakh, whichever is less, the state government will provide higher assistance.
In addition, on loans up to Rs 10 lakh, the state government will provide interest assistance of up to 10 per cent on the outstanding balance for 2 years.
Input subsidy for fish seed, feed, equipment will be provided at the rate of Rs. 8200 per hectare

Assistance for damage repair and renovation in ports

Extending the existing jetty to 500 m. Build a new jetty of length.
Repair of brake water.
Establish a parking facility with a wharf wall in the red light area.
Construction of parking facility in T-JT area.
Repair of damage to the surface of existing jetty as well as to electrical facilities (high mast tower).
Repair and expansion of damaged jetty.
Repair of damage to electrical facilities (high mast tower).
Repair and reinforcement of damage to wharf wall and slope pitching.
Repair of damage to electrical facilities (high mast tower).
Repair and strengthening of damage to jetties, bollards and slope pitching.
Repair of damage to electrical facilities (high mast tower).
The state government will also assist in the operation of desalination at fish landing centers.
