Milkha Singh passed away at the age of 91 from Corona, 5 days before his wife took his final farewell

Flying Sikh Farewell:  

Former Indian legend sprinter Milkha Singh has died due to corona. He was 91 years old. His wife Nirmal Kaur passed away 5 days ago due to post covid complications. Milkha Singh was undergoing treatment at PGIMER in Chandigarh.

Milkha Singh has been a track and field sprinter. In his career he set many records and won many medals. Represented India at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, the 1960 Olympics in Rome and in 1964 in Tokyo, Milkha Singh was named India's greatest Olympian for decades with his stellar performances.

He was discharged on May 30 at the urging of family members and brought home a few days earlier. He has been receiving treatment at home ever since. After a few days, his health deteriorated again and his oxygen level began to decline. On June 3, he was re-admitted to the hospital. While Nirmal Kaur was undergoing treatment at Fortis Hospital in Mohali.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Milkha Singh on the phone on June 4 and asked about his health. The Prime Minister said Milkha would return soon to bless and inspire the athletes participating in the Tokyo Olympics.

Milkha Singh has been a four-time Asian Games gold medalist.

Nirmal Kaur was the captain of the Indian volleyball team.
Nirmal Kaur died due to post covid complications. He was 85 years old. Nirmal had been the captain of the Indian women's volleyball team. She also held the post of Sports Director (for women) in the Punjab Government. A statement from Milkha Singh's family said that Nirmal Kaur passed away on June 13 at 4 pm. Milkha Singh could not attend his wife's funeral as he was admitted to the ICU.

Born in
Pakistan Milkha Singh was born on 20 November 1929 in a Sikh family in Govindpura (Pakistan). After joining the army and joining the cross country race, Milkha Singh came sixth out of more than 400 soldiers.

Milkha won India's first gold medal in the track and field event at the 1958 Commonwealth Games. No one could break this record for 56 years after that.

He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. He participated in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, did not do well, but paved the way for further competitions.
